Hanging with Dad

I'm trying to keep it lose - no sharp edges -- colors that suggest rather than outlines that define. This is close.

Mom's get creative on the beach sometimes -- this mom sure knew how to take a walk. She stayed in shape walking this guy everywhere - who was very happy to keep moving.

Territorial Dispute

This guy was not happy with the interlopers - but they seemed to understand and took their own action.
I could watch these guys all day.

Sticking his neck out

I'll have to go back and try to get a better photo -- the glare on this is pretty bad in the post (not so bad on my mac before posting). Frustrating!

Gone surfin

NFS

This is my youngest -- off for a day on the waves. It's almost a daily event for her in Kill Devil Hills in the summer -- and who can blame her?

Ghost crab 2010

12X5
acrylic on canvas

I so love these guys - and it takes such patience and a really great lens to get a good photo --
but I finally got to see some amazing details (still bragging on the Nikon Coolpix P100)!!! I think he'd love that he was so big in my painting. The biggest ghost crab I've ever seen was about the size of my palm. But then -- maybe - under the sand - the mother of all ghost crabs reign! I'll have to keep looking.

Contemplating sand

$75.00

I imagine this little guy is thinking, "do we like sand, Blankie?"
He was not sure about anything - despite the binkie and blankie's presence to make it all better.

Beach Buddy

8X10
acrylic on hardboard
$75.00

This is the same dog as the water dog painting. It's actually pretty hard to find a dog on the beach this summer because of the extreme heat. Let's just say, you can't walk barefoot in the sand. This guy was out early with his favorite beach buddy. They were taking a break from throwing (and fetching) the ball.

Water Dog

5X7
acrylic on hardboard

I loved watching this guy go for the ball on the beach. He was such a muse for me - I think I'll be painting him more -- he obviously loves the water - or the ball -- even more than I do. Hard to imagine (except the ball part).

Grampa's helping hands

5X7
oil on hardboard

I think this one speaks for itself. I love the way this little beach baby trust the water because of who's holding her hands.
Because Poppop holds her - there's nothing to fear.
I didn't stick around though to hear her reaction when the cold water hit her toes!

Skimming the Surface

6x6 acrylic on hardboard
ready to hang
I love these birds SO much - the only time pelicans look truly graceful is when they're flying. The rest of the time they look like strange, prehistoric creatures. Watching them move around when not in the air makes you seriously doubt such an anomaly of nature even can fly - then they take off - with such grace and beauty - it's incredible.
I finally have a camera that can really capture then clearly from the shore. It's the Nikon coolpix P100 - I swear the best camera I've ever owned. It has amazing clarity even when it zooms out past the waves. It's taken me many years and many camera's - some far more expensive and heavy - to find such a great one. Life is good!

Atlantic Street beach access

12x12 acrylic on hardboard
This is the beach access where my kids are surfing from this summer. LOVED the bright orange kayak against the green beach grass -- it has a paddle - and a life jacket - and it's ready to roll -- for a nominal rental fee of course.

Juice Box Beach Break

Oil on board
8X8
I loved this little girl on the beach. I took photo's of her walking around in her big hat and watching the other kids - then when she sat in her frog chair and stopped for a drink break - it was just too darn cute. She drank it with a fury - like her mother made her take a break from the beach and the fun to re-hydrate. Darn mom! LOL
